Headers for my 383 TPI
I am currently building a 383 TPI for my car and was unsure about what size headers to go with. I have a set of Hooker 2460's (1 5/8") on the car now and I just purchased a set of Dyno Don's 1 3/4" headers. The motor has a 224/230 @ .050 cam in it, AFR 195cc cylinder heads, and a complete TPIS Intake set-up on the car. Will these 1 3/4" headers be too much for the motor causing a power loss down low, or will I be fine and only gain power?

im running the same headers as you and ive been recommended to change them to some dyno dons or SLP headers (1 3/4). i guess it just depends wats ur set up..i am also ready to do a 383 setup on mine.oh and i got recommended also to go 3.5 in exhaust

Does anybody think my set up will benefit from the 1 3/4" headers? I heard that the AFR's need dyno dons headers to clear the exhaust ports.

yes, run the 1 3/4's. 1 5/8 wont cover the entire exhaust port on AFR heads but a 383 really can benefit from a good 1 3/4 tube

Dittos. Run the 1 3/4 inch headers. You do not want to cover the exhaust ports and Dyno Dons as far as I know are the only ones that do not on AFR heads.

As the above poster stated, "no". Go with the 1 3/4" primary tubes.
