can this bent distributor be repaired?

could this be fixed with a mallet or something at home, need to go to a machine shop, or is this thing scrap? i dont see any cracks in it, and the part that hasnt been bent seems perfectly straight.

Yes you could repair it, but you could also find a good used one at a junk yard for cheap, and that would be the better route to go. Just get it and swap parts from the bent one to the used one.

Don't see why you couldn't just hammer it flat again.

You sure it's a msd distributor, thought they were all billet aluminum cause that one looks stock.

looks like a stocker with newer pickup installed.. but if it were me I would grab the big channel locks and bend it flat. but as long as the cap sits strait your fine. and from the picture both mounting points look untouched so it would be good

Looks like a Cardone one from kragens/OReileys. Bend don't hammer. You want to use a vise or something that will help you keep the piece of metal straight. If you can get it so the cap sits on straight it should work OK. You may want to check after it's installed and been run to make sure the rotor is not hitting the cap or contacts unevenly

Re: can this bent distributor be repaired?

I am sorry but that cant be a MSD distributor, I see a MSD hot box but the distributor in your hand looks bone stock. And even if it were an MSD it will still be the same size as a stock one, because it has to fit in the same place. The thing about bending it back onto shape is that it may not seal right and you could get water up into it. Thats a chance you will have to take. Also I dont know if it is the way you are holding it but even the pick up coil looks off like it to is bent in that photo.
