I broke my gas pedal

I wasn't doing anything Stupid but I pressed my gas pedal a bit hard. Nothing exaggerated but apparently it was enough to break my gas pedal. So how the hell do i fix it?

its still there attached its just loose as hell and doesn't give my car any gas no matter if I go down there and press it with my hand. i can still rev the engine if i go under the hood and pull on that throttle thing. [ i know little about cars but I'm learning] Just stuck my face down in there. There is nothing from what i can see wrong with any part of the pedal. What seems to be the problem is the little wire attached to the pedal itself. its loose, how do i tighten that back in there so the pedal stays up and not down.

1991 Camaro RS. V6. Thanks in advance for the help.

Never showed a pic of the car. http://a.imageshack.us/img267/6161/mycarp.jpg Got it for $500, rims suck *** but I love the car.

Has the throttle cable end come loose from the pedal?

Re: I broke my gas pedal

no the cable is still attached to the pedal. Everything looks fine and normal but the throttle cable is loose. the pedal rests all the way down. I can pull and push the throttle cable in and out of its hole but it won't do anything. When i pull on the throttle body under the hood it'll rev normally. Do I just have to tighten that throttle cable back into the hole with the pedal resting up? how do i go about that?

Re: I broke my gas pedal

So wear and tear causes this to happen or what? I have driven cars hard before but I never had this happen.

Can I fix this myself or how much am I looking at for a mechanic to fix?

Re: I broke my gas pedal

Yep, it wears out like anything else. How you fix it is up to you. Personally, I like getting my hands dirty and knowing every little thing that has been done to my vehicles. So I'd be more likely to grab my trusty repair manual and have a go at it. If you aren't confident in your skills, ask a mechanically inclined friend to supervise, or have a mechanic make the repair. Truthfully I can't imagine it would be very difficult to replace. If you do take a crack at it, just take your time and mentally note how it came apart piece by piece and remember it will go together opposite the order it came apart. As far as cost, I have no idea. Labor rates at my shop are $65/hr for mechanical repairs. Plus the mark up on the part itself.

Re: I broke my gas pedal

I have a buddy that is a mechanic so i'll drag his *** over here to help me out. I'll do it myself so I can get some experience but he'll just be here so I don't turn my car into a bomb or something.

At least I know what I'm dealing with so thanks for all the help guys.

Good deal. That way you know what hands have been dinking around in your engine compartment. Best of luck, let us know how it works out for ya and ask any questions you want.

Re: I broke my gas pedal

Keep forgetting to come back. it turns out it just slipped off the cradle. I put it back on. Nothing broke. I'm getting better at this car fixing thing.

Good deal. Always nice when it turns out to be something simple. Even if it stumped you for a while, the relief at the end is worth it. Keep at it my friend, the more you do the more you learn. Just take small steps, read first, then tackle each new thing slowly and methodically. Before you know it, you'll be a pro.

Could have more true words. I've learned so much about my car by just looking at it, and figuring it out and fixing it.
