Starter, NSS, ??? I give up
Car: 87 camaro 305 (TPI pulled off with holley 600 carb installed)
Car was running fine, started right up and pulled it out of the garage and had to shut it down. Came back like 15 minutes later and when I turned the ignition I got a couple clicks (like a dead battery). Charged the battery fully and tested the voltage coming off the battery and everything was good. Turned the ignitions and just got one click, nothing dims or dies or anything, but it wont start and I cant hear the starter turning. I jumped the NSS, still one click, tried jumping the posts on the solenoid and dont even get a click, just a couple sparks until a solid connection is made....is my starter toast or is there something else I forgot to check?
Thanks

Only thing there is is the purple wire - should be all alone on the starter on the smaller bolt - all other wires on other second larger post. Then purple wire runs through firewall to the NSS, then out of NSS on a yellow wire to the ignition switch (NOT the key cylinder). So start at the ignition switch (its on top of the column, under the guages on driver side of column - you can see it from beneath column), make sure you get 12v out of the ignition switch when key is turned, them make sure you get 12v on yellow wire at NSS when key is turned, then make sure you get 12v out of NSS on purple wire when key is turned, then make sure you get 12v on purple wire at starter when key is turned.

Check your battery cables and connections. Ive found cables broken inside the insulation. The most positive test for this is a volt drop test accross each cable while attempting to crank the engine. Volt drop test is performed by placing a test lead at each end of the cable and watching for voltage reading while cranking. 1/2 - 1 volt is normal for old wiring but if voltage goes much higher you will need to replace that cable. Testing resistance generally does no good. The low current generated during the ohm test will not show a partially broken cable, even though the fault will prevent the starter from working.
