I got everything running right on my camaro its a 283 retro fit with a 700r4 behind it, the 283 isnt stock. Anyways just got insuance and tags and drove it around the block seems like it has no power when i try to drive it , im pushing close to 3500 rpms with no difference in idle ect. Also found out the speedo doesnt work even though i installed a new cable. any ideas or imput?

Re: No real power?

Hard to say why it has no power without knowing anything about it, other than that it's a 283.

If you twist the transmission end of the speedo cable quickly, do you see the needle jump? If so, then check the speedometer gears. If not, make sure the cable housing is clipped into the back of the speedometer head correctly.

What do you mean about pushing 3500 with no change in idle?
The engine probably needs some attention to the timing and carb to feel right.

Re: No real power?

when the car sits in the driveway at idle its 2500 i know its high but if i turn down the idle screw any more it idles off. when its in gear it drops down to 750 to 900 which is normal to me, but when i stop at stop sign at that rpms sounds like its gonna stall out. now when i drive the car a 1/4 mile down road im pushing close to 3500 with no real power change at the wheels.

im thinking not enough spark to burn the gas off plus maybe timing issues?

I'm thinking you need a new tach, for one.

How did you set the idle mixture?

Re: No real power?

readjusted timing and idle, the tach is now at 1800 rpm reason it reads that because im going from a 6 to 8 cylinder setup , in due time a new tach.

runs like a champ now
