Engine Quit Yesterday Fired Fine Today but has miss at idle
Wife took her 89 IROC Convertible for a road trip and got 2 hrs from home, stopped for fuel and cranked back up and when she pulled out it died and wouldn't start. This is a TPI 305 with 45,000 actual miles. She got dealer mechanic to check fuel pressure and it was fine. I hooked up trailer and picked the car up last night, didnt unload it when I got home. Went out to unload this morning and the car fired right up. The engine light never came on and there are no codes in the system, engine does not idle very smoothly, I pulled the IAC out a few months ago and cleaned it which helped some but not completely eliminating the poor idle. I can turn the key on now and both electric fans start pulling, anyone have any suggestions?

It would be worth having some of your ignition components tested, such as the coil. While you're going to the store to test it, take the ignition module under the cap along and have it tested too. Even at 45k, the grease under the module can dry out. The module needs the grease to dissipate heat. The coils sometimes get hot, expand, and loose a connection internally. When they cool off, they contract and make connection again in all of the fine wire windings.

Thanks for the reply, wife told me the dealer mechanic shot fuel into the throttle body and it didn't fire off so I'm agreeing with you that it must be electrical.

Agreed, checking for spark would be your next step. If you have spark then its time to check compression (although it doesn't sound like a loss of compression from what you've said).
