Firebird headlight issues…
Hello everyone,
I have a 1991Pontiac Trans Am with two head-light issues:
1) The head-lights pop up (but do not turn on) when I turn on the parking-lights. I replaced the dashboard light switch originally thinking this was the cause; however it did not remedy the situation. They do turn on when I press the head-light button.
2) One of my headlight motors would appear to be going as it flutters when going up and sometimes drops back down. Motor turns longer than the other side which seems to be working as normal. As these motors are difficult to come by, is there another vehicle which has a motor which might work?
Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Jim

Jad,
As far as the headlight motor goes, there is an "easy" fix for it. You can replace the nylon bushings (bearings?) inside the motor, and they work like new. Cheap fix, just takes your time for labor. I have to do it for both my headlights ( 88 GTA) but haven't gotten around to it yet.
Good Luck

Go to the website "Top Down Solutions" for your headlight rebuild kit. Very straightforward and a good price.

Hey guys, thanks for the info... should have thought about the rebuild kits myself as the ebay headlight motors are quite pricey.
Any thought on the Parkinglight - Headlight pop up issue?
Thanks,
Jim

First, on all things electrical, I check the fuses. I have spent too many hours only to find a blown fuse. There will be a relay somewhere, and that is where I would start on the other issue.

Under dash fuses are all good. Any idea where the headlight relay is or how to tell if it is still good?
Thanks,
Jim

If you buy the TDS kit, good luck following the instructions. You'll need it!
They contain pictures that don't really help any, and don't contain pictures that are desperately needed.
Also, count on the motor housing nut heads to break off when you open up the motors. Id get some reverse threaded drill bits ahead of time.
