91 Camaro wont start...
I am having a hard time figuring this one out on my own. This is my 3rd camaro and never have I had this problem...
I turn the car on, fan runs, fuel pump primes, proper voltage, but wont crank. I checked every relay with the exception of the starter relay because i dont know where it is.
Injectors and everything else seem to be fine. Replaced ignition cylinder, got a new key and properly coded. Neutral saftey switch is good.
I can jump the car from the starter but will run very choppy and when I press the gas, it dies out. I have an idea for what that is, but why the car isnt starting or giving any signal to the starter, baffles me.
Im lost on this one, please help!

I got it started with a push button starter but when its on, it doesnt have a steady idle. Just up and down. I press the accelerator and it registers, just not quickly like it should. Could it be timing? Lack of spark?

Re: 91 Camaro wont start...
the starter relay in my Camaro was behind the driver side kicker panel just underneath the Hood Release, it is covered with alot of nasty black goo...

that should help a little bit
My Camaro is having the excact same problem that you are having I just pulled the Starter Enabler Relay and waiting for my local part store to ship a new one (wont get it until 3 PM PST tomorrow) I will inform you of the progress I made as soon as I make it.

Re: 91 Camaro wont start...
Well, I replaced My Starter Relay and I am having the Same Problem, I hear my Fuel Pump Prime and I turn my Key nothing happens. Last night after I wrote my last post I tried to "Ghetto" rig the relay wires by Splicing the two end ones and it did want to kick over. then it just quit and showed same symptoms....I am at a loss for words....

If when you turn the key and your car doesn't register with the exception of your fuel pump priming, then you could be having a problem with your vats system. I was just given a breakdown of how it all works. If you want, I would suggest buying a vats bypass module made for your specific key code and unplugging the orange wire coming from your steering column that connects to the purple and white wires going into your dash (under the driver side kick panel, near where u were with the starter relay) and plug in your vats bypass module to the connector (purple and white wires going into your dash). Then take the two yellow wires going into your starter relay and connect them together. Then try starting. A vats bypass module is typically 24 bucks but you can find them on eBay for about 17. But first get your key code. Either a blacksmith or (preferably) a Chevy dealer (its free). I'll be trying mine on tomorrow if the weather holds up. Don't be defeated. We will have these cars back on the road where they belong, in no time. Fingers crossed.

Re: 91 Camaro wont start...
yeah, I am getting Annoyed. I am having to drive my 87 Mustang GT....makes me sick.
The Sad thing is that I have a 350 Built for a Supercharger sitting I was going to throw in, but with all this hassle, I may buy this 86 Monte Carlo SS that is in town for sale...that doesn't have VATS!
I will look around tonight for a VATS Bypass Module. 215 K on vehicle and still a good car.

Re: 91 Camaro wont start...
That was my first thought too. But my back up is to just ditch throttle body all together for a 4 barrel carburetor, change the intake and burn the computer. Lol. I'm doing a complete overhaul one of these days. I just want the car running in the meantime.
Re: 91 Camaro wont start...
Before you buy that bypass module take a look at my thread. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/elec...s-am-vats.html
My car didn't want to crank and it turned out to be the ignition kill on the alarm.

Re: 91 Camaro wont start...
I had my Clifford aftermarket alarm pulled a week ago, it ran for 2 days then I parked it for an hour, went out and my car wouldn't crank over. I have no alarm in my car (pulled by a certified clifford installer) I don't think I have the same problem.

Re: 91 Camaro wont start...
Ive tried the resistor bypass but since my problem was with the actual vats computer module, I got the vats bypass, bypassed the starter relay and now she cranks up like a charm. but if your problem is with the key itself, or the ignition cylinder, then a resistor will work

Re: 91 Camaro wont start...
I just figured out how to run my code and my ECU is throwing code error 53 at me, is it still the VATS system? according to this list i have three possibilities:
