Re: Starter Question
It's hard to know what you're asking, so I'll
.
Check the power steering fluid level.

Re: Starter Question
Thanks for the welcome, Havoc.
Did you click the link? I recorded me starting the car. The 1st try she didnt start, 2nd turn she did.
I was hoping someone could hear it & help me out. I always thought the started made a clicking sound when it went out, so Im not sure.

Re: Starter Question
Heard it a couple times.
If it's grinding @ the starter, make sure the mounting bolts are tight.
While you're checking that, look at the flexplate & look at the starter drive gear, see if there are any teeth missing from either one or both.
Reason I say this--if the starter is loose, the gear won't match-up to the flexplate when it jumps out, possibly causing drag & twist to the starter itself.
If the starter is tight, but ther gear is loose, it can get beat-up if it's not retracting.
What I thought I was hearing was sounding like the power steering pump is low on fluid.

Re: Starter Question
Would the power steering pump make that kind of noise when the car is starting? That wouldn't keep it from starting though, would it?
Sorry, I am such a "girl" when it comes to this. I am kind of new at taking care of this myself, bare (bear?) with me please.

Re: Starter Question
No, it would'nt stop the car from starting.
It will make a weird noise-- kinda whining noise.
When you star it again, turn the wheel--if the whining // grinding noise gets louder // worse, check the steering fluid level.

Re: Starter Question
Sounds to me like the starter is failing. It seems like when you turned the car over, the clutch stayed spinning over the starter even after it had engaged with the flywheel. I would recommend replacing it. That is definitely nothing to do with the power steering pump.

Re: Starter Question
According to the part numbers, it won't work. They are different in size. The one for the V6 is smaller and not as strong. The best thing to do is to pull that one...bring it in as a core exchange and pay the $60 for a new one. Just my opinion.
