starter gear won't move

starter gear won't move

That washer-ring thingy on the end only moves this far which is the same distance the gears move.. like 1/4 of an inch then it stops.

how do i fix this without buying another starter..

Beat it with a hammer? I have no idea lol, I never have luck with starters... all I know is smacking it around helps me often.

sounds like the solenoid inside is going bad on you, when you try to start the car did it make a fast clicking sound? my suggestion is buy a new starter really worth it to try and rebuild the starter yourself its not that expensive of a part
