broken engine mount bolt

I was putting engine mounts on my chevy 350 today. I got two of the 3 tight but the third ( the top left one ) would not get tight so, I continued to tighten and the head broke off of the bolt. Will the engine be okay with just two bolts holding to mounts on or could I redrill it and put anouther bolt in its place. If so, what tools will I need to redrill it.

I would think you would be fine unless you are racing it. You could always re-drill too, but you might want to try a thread chaser first and a new bolt, that would be easier than re-drilling.

Re: broken engine mount bolt

The bolt is actually broken off into the block, so I don't think a thread chase will work.

Re: broken engine mount bolt

Is there any chance you can get a pair of vice grips on it enough to back it out? If not, you can drill it and use an easy out to remove it.

If the other two are tight, you should be fine.

Re: broken engine mount bolt

the passenger side of the engine. I was thinking of using an easy out as jtsk. When I was putting the harmonic balancer bolt onto the crank snout that snapped as well so I could use an easy out for both of them.

The passenger side mount bolts don't take as much tension loading as the driver side, as long as you aren't downshifting hard.
