cranks no fire NEED HELP

I have a Chevy 350 with 882 heads an aluminum intake and a holly carb with an msd HEI distubutor. I got the engine two weeks ago and tried to start it and got nothing from it just cranks..

Ive check the timing a 100 times and its on TDC you would think it would run like that just rough

Its got 110 compression on ever cylinder but one that one has 100

Its for sure getting fuel can see and smell it. we left the spark plugs out of the engine for a full night the next mornin put them all back in and it fired up and ran for 15 or 20 seconds then the carb ran out of fuel (on a stand no fuel pump) It does have spark on every cylinder everything says run it just dont run any ideas that i could try open to anything thanks

What do you know about engine.
Was it a runner before you got it?
Are the valves set right?

Re: cranks no fire NEED HELP

Probably the wrong plugs for a carb. They're probably shot by now. Use plugs that can be gapped at .035" to trouble shoot.

Re: cranks no fire NEED HELP

You say this was supposed to be a Vortec?? If so 882 heads are not supposed to be there. From what I have read, they are some of the crappiest heads you can have. I read about them, because I have a set on my 68 327 block.

Re: cranks no fire NEED HELP

sorry its been so long i appriceate the help.

Ok so hears what i have found out about the engine it came out of a 94 chevy pickup it was a vortec engine in that truck the guy said that it just stopped running one day so he thought the fuel injection went out. turns out it was just the computer but he had torn it down to a short block

he stuck some 882 heads and a edelbrock torker intake he had layin around and a holley carb played with it for a week and sent to me to see if i could do somthing with it and its got me stumped. Ive done the timing a hundred times making sure i didnt miss somthing and its fired up once ran for about 30 seconds and then the carb ran out of fuel now nothing.

I know 882 heads may not be the best for performance but were just trying to make it run thats all. the cam was at 6 and the crank at 12 so nothin there it has compression in all the cylinders about 110 except for cylinder 3 its at 85. Im 100% for sure the timing is at TDC and nothing from it. And about the distubutor i have had two HEIs in it one came from my running blazer just to see if hes was bad and still nothing went right back in the blazer and it still runs so ..... LOST
