Dz 302 shortblock
stock 86 305 heads new springs maybe gasket matched
edelbrock performer or equivelent
comp xe 256
flowtech shorties true duals into 2.5 thrush tubes
rebuilt hei with good parts and wires. optimized timing
non computer qjet
think the 4" bore of the 302 would make a difference or would the heads just choke out any real gains? not sure how bad the 305 heads are im assuming pretty crappy.
Its only gonna be in the car for one summer just cant stand the thought of driving around in something with a 305 while i sort out the rest of the car.
Its gonna be goin into a canadian 86 z28 auto car with 40000 miles with a normal hei and qjet. all the emissions equipment is intact should i keep it for a kinda sleeper look?(I have a hate of all things billet and chrome and prefer resto mods) keep the egr?

I'd imagine it'd not be a whole lot better than a 305... Why not just sell the DZ 302 block to fund a better (350+ cube) engine? People pay quite a bit for them.
Its blueprinted ready to go on a engine stand in my garage. I know how much they go for. its out of a 67 z 1 of 600.
Trying to spend absolutely nothing on a motor this year. Rear end, trans, full susp, brakes and wheels/tires are eating up my budget for this summer.

I think the point is that you could sell the DZ, and have enough cash in hand to get a 350 to install, and still have cash left in pocket. Especially if you target your sale to a 1st gen enthusiast looking to do a factory restore (they would pay top dollar since a frame-up restore of a 1967 would easily go for $30,000+ US).

If you actually HAVE one of those motors, you'd be an IDIOT to run it, and risk damaging it. Those things are worth some SERIOUS coin.
Putting THAT motor in THAT car for THAT reason is LITERALLY, pushing $1000 bills out of the way and leaving them lying there, to pick up the dime they're covering up. The mark of a fool.
Sell it and buy a 400. You'll have enough cash left over for a forged rotating assembly, some top-of-the-line aluminum heads, a solid roller setup, all that stuff in your list, and maybe even some resto parts.

Theirs nothing special about the 67 z28 blocks. Early z28 camaro blocks didnt have dedicated casting numbers theirs nothing to distinguish them from another small journal 327 block. I already made a fortune selling most of my dads n.o.s parts. Its not worth that much just kinda cool to have. The amount I'd get for selling this motor won't even come close to what i'm putting under the hood of this car after I have everything else on the car sorted out.Originally Posted by sofakingdom

He is right in part, the 67 and 68 blocks were 327's, small journal for 67 and large for 68 and 69.
Also its a 2 bolt main block which the high dollar fetcher is the 69 4 bolt block, but still its a worthy VXXXDZ block and it is his.
2.02 heads is what I'd be looking for get for it because of the bore size and its ability to rev and need them. You'd kill it with 305 heads.
Its your decision, and I am by no means a expert, but if I had it, I'd do it!!!

It's overall just a "crappy" combo in that it has potential to make good power but wont. A better head would do it a ton of justice... I'd be looking for Vortecs with a combo like that.

Will be cam limited too but its not a high rpm app anyway.
If that block has the #s stamp still its worth huge bux. THey were quite the motor in their day but honestly with the small stroke they made puke for torque. Unless they had tuning headers and a sticky tire they werent much good for a 14 or 15 sec 1/4 anyway.
It will get him by til he can build what he wants though.

Whats worth HUGE bucks per say???
The block is worth $1500 or so tops, redone some more!
Thats not huge by any means since newer blocks can go much more.
Rare, yes!
What he'll be is different and different is good IMO.
A little work and he can make the same power that propelled the 69's into the 12's with ease.
I'd build it era style and that 400 ponies will more than satisfy most.
It wasn't made for torque, it was a rally racing rpm motor.
