Has anyone tried this kit?
I don't know much about pistons, are these an OEM replacement? Will anything else be required? This kit is $600usd, can't find anything cheaper then that w/ pistons. I have a 98 LS1 btw..

I don't know anything about that one, but I generally stay away from kits. They are normally a bargain collection of parts that may or may not be optimal for what you're building. Have you already determined that you need new pistons?
I'm not really saying yay or nay, just throwing that out there.

No, I have not determined if new pistons are needed... but they do come in the kit and I planned to install everything else. This is a stock rebuild (I have to pass smog in cali so I cannot do much).
From what I can see the kit looks good but I don't know if it comes with the correct pistons. I hate to be a test subject, but it's what's in my budget and has all the parts I need (think I will buy a new oil pump later).

I belive everything will work fine, I just don't know about the pistons. It's comes with 8 of these (will they work for a 1998 f-body dropout):

thanx, that's what I needed to know. Looks like the kit may be just what I needed.
LS1s are flat tops. Only 99-06 5.3's and LQ4's are dish pistons from the factory
I wouldnt bother with that overhaul kit. Half the stuff in it should be a replace as needed like the pistons and cam bearings. It leaves out alot of the other necessaries like the TTY rod/head bolts. The gasket kit shows the wrong image, and google cant find any other instances. Hope its just a file pic. Besides most LSx gaskets are reusable. Only must haves are head gaskets at $45/pr from summit
Another big issues is the fact your block is a 98. The cyl walls do not accept any overbore, you can do a max of .005" hone before it must be sleeved. If the walls are out of round or scored, its cheaper to find a fresh block
