Confirmed gas leaking, need to figure out where from. How to? :(

Its confirmed, gas is leaking. i know this from adding 4 gallons and seeing the gauge move up, then reading on E now.. and brown discoloration coming from the back where the gas tank is, along with a strong smell of gas i smell more after the car ran, 84 Camaro, carburated, 2.8L V6.

How do it will if its the gas TANK or the LINE? Since changing the line would be easier and if its the connection thats leaking thats fine, but the tank, i found one on EBay. I forget how much it costs to change the tank!

It sounds like you should probably pull your tank to inspect it and see exactly what's going on there.

i would just park it and wait a while, then go back and check. you may find a puddle or even see the drip whether its steady or intermittent. i had some bad fuel lines in my 84 a while ago and ended up having to get it replaced.

if it IS the tank, look into the 4th gen tanks, they are made out of plastic i believe = help you shed some weight and they are about the same size.

for changing the tank i believe you have to drop the rear in order to get to it, i'm sure there are write up seeign how people change fuel pumps fairly often.
