i have a 92 v8 5.7 25th anniv edition camaro that will not idle-strts and revs nice but then just winds down and dies- and when i step on the gas it chokes and then tries to die so i give it more gas and it chokes some more and then tries to die and aftr a bit of that- it wins and dies- i have made sure it is timed correctly, has new plugs, has a new throttle positioning sensor (that got rid of the loping) new water pump, fuel pump etc was just done recently....any ideas? i feel as tho i am soooooo close! o and it has gas...

Have you checked the fuel pressure? Could be a problem with the fuel pressure regulator. Is there a strong fuel odor while this happens?

Thnx jtsk there is a strong odor- I thought it was just from me pumpimg it and restrtng it all the time, is there any other way to check? I just had the fuel pump etc done...

is this a TPI motor or TBI?

The throttle position sensor I got today was not for a tpi- if that helps

well, a TBI motor looks like a carburetor on top and the TPI has a long plenum with 4 tubes going to the intake on each side, but what I was getting at was on the TPI, you can hook a fuel pressure gauge up to the shrader valve and take a fuel pressure reading. Should be in the neighborhood of 40 psi I think. I know you can check it on a TBI, just not sure where to take the reading from on a TBI.

I assume that the distributor is tight now and it's all back in time, but I would double check everything. Be sure to unhook the computer when you set the timing. Then check the fuel pressure and verify it is correct. If that doesn't fix the problem then it's on to something else, but you are eliminating things as you go so you can start to close in on the issue.

Should the distributor be tight, tight? Bcse it was loping and when we timed it and then tightened the distributor a little it stopped loping and now the tps seemed to resolve the loping thing now, it just turns over a revs nice then...dies (won't idle) or when I give it gas it tries to keep up but then chokes like its flooded and then dies- someone said maybe the fuel filter? But i had the whole fuel sys done less than a year and it hasn't been running a lot..

The distributor should be tight enough that it wont move on its own and can't be moved by hand. I would check the fuel pressure first and make sure it's where it should be, then move on to other troubleshooting. Stay organized and methodical in your approach.
