Valve Spring Locators
Hello,
Sort of an unusual problem. While doing a valve job on a set of "original" 113 Vette Aluminum heads(1989/1990), two of the hardened valve spring locators mysteriously dissapeared. So far the local GM dealer and a few other engine shops have been no help. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I obviously need two more. I can give a more detailed description of them if necessary.
Thanks in advance...Scott
UPDATE: The locators are NOT GM# 10212809

Re: Valve Spring Locators - Update
For those interested...I got answer for my problem and maybe someone can use this info in the future. As far as I can tell, the original locators that came on the 113 heads are discontinued from GM but the replacement part number is 10185066 (supposedly titanium). The only difference from the original to the replacements are the shoulder that goes up into a stock style spring...it is shorter than the original. This should be fine in all cases using factory style springs because most everyone cuts down the guide to accomodate the higher lift cams. Part number 10212809 (spring steel and previously mentioned in my other post) is the replacement number for 10185066. The latter # is quoted for ZZ4 applications and will work on the 113 heads just not as good if one were using stock style springs.
This is what I have gathered in my reasearch but make no claim to its absolute correctness.
Thank you...

Re: Valve Spring Locators
OK...OK the package actually calls them shims. Technically they are shims but the collar serves as a spring locator...semantics! As long as it is understood they go on the bottom of the spring between the spring and the head.
