this may be a dumb question...gas

ok i siphoned gas from my brothers car since he blew his head gasket and the gas was still new. i am working on fixing my car so i needed gas. i found out my pump was out and when i siphoned it back out it was orange. apparently my tank was rusted.

my question is can i run the gas through say a few coffee filters and reuse it or is it a total loss. i just got my tank cleaned.

The orange color isn't that unusual. I have removed gas from many cars here in the banana belt(western Oregon) that was orange. After servicing the tank, the gas goes right back in. BTW, running top tier fuel with a good additive package(Chevron,Shell, Union76) will help prevent rust in the tank and lines.

Banana Belt? Gives new meaning to the term "monkey wrench"!

Where's that term come from ... you grow bananas in Oregon?

Its a bad joke. Banana belt, I believe refers to the tropics, where bananas do grow, where it's generally warm. We jokingly call western Oregon the banana belt because it's usually cold and dismal here. Thank God for our little bit of summer every year. Usually just long enough that we forget how long and crappy the winter is.

Yeah - cause I was thinking that maybe the term stems from the fact that you guys are 'bananas' for living where it's cold and rains 360 days a year. I guess it's all in what you get used to.
