Replacing starter!
Replacing starter!
I have a 92 rs with the 305 and I need to pit a starter on it. Does any one have a quick write up? And I found this starter on eBay (link at end) and I was wandering if anyone has bought from them. Thanks in advance.

Re: Replacing starter!
It's listed for a 1995 Caprice Camaro Firebird as well as a 1991 same - I'd pass - 1995 cars had LT1's and 1991 cars did not! And $24? You'll get what you pay for (which is nothing)!
Just go to Autozone and grab one! Why does everyone want to buy parts online, pay for shipping, risk return issues, and wait for UPS when the parts are 5 minutes from the house, no return issues and no shipping?
Starter has 2 bolts - not rocket science. But it has to be shimmed correctly, shimming instructions will be included with the starter (assuming you buy a REAL starter and stop wasting your time/money on ebay).

Re: Replacing starter!
Can I ask why you are replacing starter? Have you tested it? Everyone wants to replace starter on a VATS car when it doesn't crank, 99% of the time it's not the starter at all! What are your symptoms?

oh come on, you can get one at the local parts store for about $35. Starters for the SBC's are cheap.
as how to replace
disconnect negative battery cable
place front of vehicle on jack stands
loosen the 2 large starter bolts
undo the nut on the support bracket that connects to the engine block
remove the 2 starter bolts and let the bracket support the starter
disconnect the small cable as well as the bigger wires on the starter
finish removing the nut on the bracket but be careful, the starter is heavy
bring old starter to parts store so you don't pay a core charge and need to return
bring new starter home, slap it in
total time including jacking, placing car on stands, driving 10 miles to parts store and replacement, 90 minutes.

Re: Replacing starter!
What he said ^^. I also had to drop the exhaust Y-pipe since I could not get the starter around it, but I have a set of SLP headers so depending on your exhaust you will probably not have to do that.
Re: Replacing starter!
Thanks y'all. And it was having problem starting but now it want even start. It has a good battery but I went ahead and Reyes to jump but still wouldn't start so I think the starter is shot. And I thought starters were like $80 so that's why I was checking online.
P.s. Stock exhaust
