Poping Noise

so yesterday i was driving my 83 camaro z28, stock 305, and noticed a dramatic decrese in power. it was like the car was bogging down, i also notcied my rpms were very high i was going about 10-15 mph and my rpms were already at 4000 or so. i thought it might have been a trans problem and so i checked my trans fluid and it was low, so i fiiled it up and the trans starting shifting better. as i took it for the test drive i hit the gas hard a noticed still a loss of power and heard a poping noise, so i brought it back to the house and checked for anything unplugged hoses, electrical connects and so on but everything is fine, what else could be causing this? please help

Re: Poping Noise

clogged cat or take a look at the distributor to find the miss. let the car warm up and look at the cat, if it's glowing cherry red you found the problem.

Re: Poping Noise

I'd do a tune up - fresh plugs, wires, rotor, cap, and fuel filter. Usually "popping" ends up being backfiring, which in my experience usually points to an ignition issue (bad wire, fouled plug, worn cap/rotor).

I just finised the tune up new plugs new wires new cap and a new rotor and still no luck. I took it for a test drive and wen I got on the gas just a little not even punching it it made the poping noise and seemed like it didn't want to go any faster.

Re: Poping Noise

Any chance you got the firing order off when replacing wires?
What about the fuel filter, did it get replaced?
Any stored codes in the computer?

I'm just throwing out things here to check.
