Air cleaner and spacer
I have a holly 4150 650 dp and an air gap intake and to use the vacuum port i need a 1 inch spacer and a dropped air cleaner? If i go with the 1 inch spacer and a 2" filter thats dropped .5" will it still fit under my stock hood?

Re: Air cleaner and spacer
Doesn't answer your question, but ....
I got tired of 14" air cleaner issues ... never dropped enough, always linkage issues, always hitting dist plug boots, always that stupid spacer, and in the end, they only allow about 1/2 inch of airflow througha 3inch filter because they drop so much and so drastically.
I switched to a Spetre 9" housing - it's not dropped base so there's no clearance issues at all on the carb linkage/ports, and it comes with a 2inch rechargeable filter (like a K&N) so no hood clearance issues either, and it allows more airflow than any 14inch drop base housing will ever allow. $30 on the shelf at Autozone.

Re: Air cleaner and spacer
well it closes with my 2inch cleaner and no spacer and it doesnt close with a 3" cleaner and no spacer. So i think with a 1 inch spacer 2 inch cleaner that drops 1/2 inch then i should be fine.

Re: Air cleaner and spacer
I have no clue why Edelbrock puts that fitting in such a stupid place.
I usually just plug it with an Allen-head plug. Hex or square head is too tall and interferes with the carb, although you can cut a square one off and make a slot in it.
Look at the throttle plate, center, rear. You should see a hole with a small plug you can take out with a slot screwdriver. It's 1/8" pipe. If there's not one there, you can drill and tap it. THen just go to the hardware store and get whatever 1/8" pipe stuff you need to hook up whatever you need there (should mostly be the power brakes). Probably about a 3" nipple, an elbow, and a 3/8" hose barb would do it.

Re: Air cleaner and spacer
picked up a cheap 1inch spacer local and it does not close with my 2" no drop filter so i ordered a shorter elbow to see if i can go with maybe a 1/2" spacer if not im not sure if even a 2 inch filter with half inch drop will work

Re: Air cleaner and spacer
Again - this is all reasons why I went with the 9 inch non-drop housing from Spectre. I went though well over $150 worth of drop this and spacer that etc so forth trying to get those stupid drop-base housings to work, and they never fit good, never fit, and restricted the air flow so much might as well held you hand over the carb. At first it looks kinda small really - but it's cool to see the engine rather than just seeing 14 inches of filter. My

Re: Air cleaner and spacer
Should be a hose barb on the front of the carb for PCV.
You can drill & tap a hole in the plenum if there's not. That's all Edelbrock or whoever would have done.
I would AVOID a spacer. It is certain to create hood clearance problems, or other issues.
THINK about what happens with a spacer and a drop base air cleaner.... imagine you are holding the air cleaner lid in a constant place in space, namely just barely not touching the underside of the hood, and you steadily build up the intake and carb taller and taller. As the carb gets moved upwards, the air horn gets closer and closer to the underside of the lid, right??
Therein lies the problem. Doesn't make alot of sense to build this all nice-flowing engine, and then lay a disc of metal on top of the carb, does it? You end up strangling the motor by making all the air pass through a narrow little slit up there. Ideally you want AT LEAST a couple of inches of space up there, so the air can come in smoothly and make a smooth laminar-flow kind of 90° turn to go down. A 10" air filter, let alone a 14", doesn't do a whole helluvalotta good if all the air has to go through a tiny gap less than a tenth that size.
Avoid a spacer. Find some other solution.

Re: Air cleaner and spacer
yes i have a 1 inch spacer 14x3 inch cleaner drop base of 1.25 inch and does not fit and i dont think another guarter inch would work with motor movement and the fact that it would be jammed up right to the hood this is the setup i used on my edel with no spacer and it worked good so i will be using a 9x2 with no drop untill i can buy my pro touring hood

Re: Air cleaner and spacer
If its on an RPM intake, this was my cure...
Plug the hole behind the carb base. You won't need it.
Drill and tap one of the injector bosses at the bottom of an intake runner (I used #8 I think) with a 1/8" NPT tap. Now you can use a 90* elbow and a hose barb to hook up your brake hose. Worked great for me.
Now you don't need a carb spacer.
