Help!...there appears to be a small pond in my footwell...
After noticing a small damp patch on the way to work the other day in the passenger footwell I thought nothing of it, untill I finished work and returned to my car to find it had now developed into a few cm of standing water. I soaked it up and left it till today where it repeated the same problem, so I soaked it up again on my lunch break.
While on lunch I also checked the radiator and the water level had dropped significantly, so I topped it back up and drove home. I've left it for an hour or two and just been out to check...and there is standing water appearing again. I've pulled the carpet back slightly to see if I can see where it's coming from and there is a very slight trial of water leading up behind the dash.
There has been no rain recently (strange for England I know) so that rules out a rain water leak.
Last weekend I replaced the y-pipe and in doing so snapped a stud on the passenger side manifold so had to take it out to drill. In doing so I removed some of the Air Con components. I'm confident I put everything back together as they should be and it's worth pionting out that the Air Con has never worked since I bought the car over two years ago (I don't think there is any gas in it)
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Andy

If it smells like coolant, then you need to replace the heater core.
If not, then you need to bait a hook and catch dinner! {pond}
Seriously - your heater core has gone bad. Replace. Can do it all from under pass side dash. There's 1 or 2 bolts that you cannot see, on the top of the plastic box that holds the core - they take 7mm socket - you just have to ...
1) watch a Yoga show for inspiration
2) stretch
3) get a 1/4 rachet, a 1", 2", 3" extension, and a swivel
4) say a prayer
5) twist yourself into a pretzel, reach up in there like you were birthin' a cow, and feel your way around in there, find the bolt, get the socket on it, hold your breath (so you don't move), and get those suckers out
Repeat to reassemble.
It's not all that bad - just takes a deep breath, and some patience, and the determination to breath (like a woman in labor) through the muscle cramp until you get it out.

Try you heater core. That is usually the culprit when there is a puddle on the passenger side.

Haha, thanks for the advice guys...I better get practicing on those yoga techniques, in the meantime I may just bypass the heating system and join the inlet and outlet pipes together with some copper tube. Can do without heating now the warmer(ish) weather is here.

The cigs ... well being a smoker myself, I figured the increased rush might make his hands jittery, so I side-stepped that one on purpose.
But - a beer or 3 might circumvent the nicotene rush ... certainly won't hurt!
