Please lose the caps lock. Besides just being generally impossible to read, IT LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE SCREAMING AT US. And that's not cool, because your problem is not our fault. Learn to type with caps at the beginning of sentences and everythign else small.
Now... all you gotta do to the keepers, it take about a 16mm socket, put it on the retainer, and give it one good whap with a BFH. Helps if you do it one cyl at a time in the firing order, and put the cyl you're working on at TDC. You won't even need the compressor. Just be careful to do this in an uncluttered area where you can find em if you intend to re-use em (I hope not, but w/e), because they can jump off QUITE a distance.

Haha "CAPS LOCK WONT COME OFF"
I've actually slightly bent valves doing the hammer and socket method. Now I've learned to put blocks under the head so when the valve gets smacked down, it doesnt smash against the concrete floor. (removing them with heads off the engine in my case. this wasnt specified)

Re: VALVE LOCKS WONT COME OFF
TO CLEAR THINGS UP :
CAPS LOCK IS STUCK ENGAGED . MY COMPUTER IS A P.O.S.
HEADS ARE OFF ENGINE
HEADS / ROCKERS / AND VALVES ARE STOCK
VALVE SPRINGS ARE COMPRESSED WITH TOOL
1988 5.7 L98 ENG WITH ROLLER LIFTERS
VALVES WILL MOST LIKELY BE REPLACED
DID I MISS ANYTHING ??

Re: VALVE LOCKS WONT COME OFF
Once you get the spring compresed so you can get to the locks take a small straight blade screw driver and stick it where the locks come together on the side. Then take a small hammer and very litely tap the blade of the screw driver in the groove between the locks. Or take a hammer and hit the valve on the end where the rocker arm touches it, try this first.

Re: VALVE LOCKS WONT COME OFF
I just compress the valve spring and then use a strong magnet to pull the locks off.

Re: VALVE LOCKS WONT COME OFF
Before you compress the springs, spray all the locks with WD-40 and then put a small block of wood on top and give each a few light taps with a hammer, then spray with WD again and they should come right out. A rubber mallet also works (minus the wood of course).
The other (but dangerous) way is to compress the spring and tap on them with a small hammer or screwdriver. I'd only do that if you are using a C clamp style compressor though, the regular hand-twist ones slip very easy.
Of course a magnet is a good way to catch them, i use one of the extendable pen style ones.
