High volume oil pump questions.
I purchased a GM high volume oil pump from summit for my 383 build and have decided i don't need high volume .Can I just replace the spring to lower the volume or does replacing the spring only affect the oil pressure?

I think the volume comes from the size of the passages, not the spring. If you got it from Summit, they should swap it with no issues if you choose to go that route.

Yes, the spring only controls the pressure. To change the volume, you need to swap the pump.

Most builds do not require a HV pump. When using a HV pump you need a higher capacity pan. A friend of mine replaced his stock pump with a HV pump and starved the engine of oil at higher rpm's with a standard volume pan.

i have a big block pump with a 5 qt oil pan and havent run into problems over the several thousand miles ive used that set up.
