Help me fix these problems once and for all!

I've posted about all of these, but I haven't been able to fix them so I figured I would repost them in ehre along with a couple new problems.

1. Rattling sound. It isn't all the time. And when it does happen, it's only under load (if that makes sense to you guys). It's been happening for the longest time, and I really want to fix it. It's really loud inside of the car on the passenger side when driving. I don't know how loud it is outside the car when driving, obviously. I've been told it could be a cracked flywheel. I don't know. WHat do you think?

2. I gutted my catalytic converter and it did cause me to lose some power. I plan on fixing it by putting a pipe through the cat. As of right now, when the engine is running, you can hear a significant exhaust sound coming from the engine bay. It sounds like what the exhaust would sound like out the tail pipes. (a low rumble) What causes it to go through the engine bay? If I get down next to the cat under the car, you can't hear it. Any ideas at all?

3. There is a sound coming from my pullies. It seems to be coming from my alternator, but it was just rebuilt. My uncle used his mechanics stethiscope (screwdriver) and he saidmost of the sounds is through the alternator. He also said it could just be traveling from other areas. He then told me the bearings in my tensioner pully could be going causing that sound. Any help on that?

4.THE DOORS! I want to replace atleast the lower hing pins on my doors. Can I just buyt the pins in the help! section at autozone? I know they have the rollers on them for those door things(I don't know what they are called), but everywhere i've seen the kits don't come with those. Do I just reuse them? At autozone they have two different sizes for gm doors. Which do I use?

Sorry for the long post, I just want to get this car back into shape before getting too far into the body.

EDIT: Also, My emergency brake handle. DId they changfe the style of handle for 92? I've looked at pictures and mine doesnt look the same as others on here. Mine has a half circle thing on the side of it which the cable sits in when you pull the handle. It doesnt work as well as it used to and soemtimes hte cable pops out.

without being there in person, you will onlyu receive guesses from forum posters. You need to investigate and be sure it's not pinging from running 87 octane

HOGWASH

fix what, the power that you DIDN'T lose?

bad header gasket (you aren't still running crappy exh manifolds are you) rusted y pipe, clamps need to be tightened. Again, you need to find it

could be

A/C compressor
smog pump if you still have one
alternator
water pump
tensioner
power steering pump

are you seeing a pattern about how one needs to be there in person for certain problems

I can't help with the last 2

Re: Help me fix these problems once and for all!

1. I've read the owner manual, and with my 305 throttle body injection engion, I can run 87 octane. That only engines that it said recomment the 91+ octane are the TPI engines.

2.Okay, I may now have lost any power, but I know it changed something. Not only me, but other people on this forum has had the same effect. All I want to know if it putting a pipe through the cat will fix it. I know somebody on here can tell me from experience.

3.For this one, all I really need is someone to say something along the lines of "they tend to get noisey after a while" or I've have the same problem and this fixed it." Anything that would elad me in the right direction.

4. I was going to post about this somewhere else, but maybe somebody has a how-to to replace the door pins?

yes it can run on 87 octane. If you advance the timing at all then you need to bump it but, why do people on this forum ask about performance and then run 87 and let the computer retard the timing which reduces performance???? Also, did you know that if the timing retards a bunch that the engine actually works harder and emits more heat? Is heat a good or a bad thing? anyway, enough of that

ahhhhhhh, you've been reading posts from the misinformed about how removing backpressure hurts performance. Now i understand where you got the false information because those claims are false

3.For this one, all I really need is someone to say something along the lines of "they tend to get noisey after a while" or I've have the same problem and this fixed it." Anything that would elad me in the right direction.

again, a noise could be anything. lemme see, on my daughters Accord it was the A/C compressor. On my wifes Mazda it was the P/S pump. On my sons 4th gen it was the alternator. On my stang it was the belt, on my other daughters nissan it was the tension pulley, on my 3rd gen it was the smog pump

4. I was going to post about this somewhere else, but maybe somebody has a how-to to replace the door pins?
noises can come from anywhere and through metal the sound carries. You need to get up close and personal and find it.

Re: Help me fix these problems once and for all!

As far as the lack of power, or change in performance...I am sayng this because I can feel the difference. It feels as if I have lost torque. That's why I am saying that. I'm not trying to boost my performance on 87 ethanol, as I cannot afford the higher octane, and I just want it back to what it was. That's all I ask.

I do understand the noise problem. Any way I can single out a pulley? I know I could take the belt off and spin each of them, but I doubt I could spin them fast enough by hand to tell if they make a noise.

allow me to focus on that myth

it's not about if gas is $1 per gallon or $10 per gallon. It's the per gallon difference for 89 vs 87. EBar in mnind that octane can be 2 points lower than posted. If you drive 12k miles per year and avg 20mpg then the difference is a WHOPPING $1.10 per week to use 89 vs 87 based upon a 10 cent per gallon price differential. You don't want your vehicle to retard your timing. You actually may lose economy when it does that.

As for losing torque, again, hogwash. If you take a dog slow car with a quiet exhaust, and then put on a freer flowing exhaust which INCREASES torque and HP, (not a lot but it does) what happens is that you now hear the exhaust more and it sounds like you are going like a raped ape but are still dog slow.

Please tell your friends to stop believing that stopping a pump from exhaling is a good thing. Imagine if someone held fast your nostrils and let you inhale as much as you want with your mouth but then clamped almost shut your mouth when it was time to exhale..............

how does that make sense as being healthy? The same holds true with the air pump that you call your engine.

Does the noise go away? I have a similar problem with noise coming from What I think is also the alternator, It usually only happens when I start it up and goes away after a few seconds, sometimes though it just keeps going. I'm gonna take it off and inspect when I get the chance

YEsterday, I took off the belt and the AIR pump is making some noise when I spin it. I've have to fix that.

And as far as what torque_is_good said about not loosing power, It's probably right. I've never thought of it that way.

Re: Help me fix these problems once and for all!

Alright, so I've decided to replace the exhaust manifold gaskets and see if that helps with the "rattling sound".

There's another problem I never listed. One of the front brakes are sqealing SOMETIMES. It seems to be the front right wheel. I think that makes sense ebcause the car pulls ro the right when I brake. I checked and the pads look find. What could it be?
