Possible Bad Water Pump Bearings?

Hello, Im gettig this loud scraping sort of sound when the engine is idling and is very noticible, I was told yesterday that it sounds like the water pump. I did a quick look online to see if I could diagnose it for sure before I went out and bought a new water pump and I learned that if I grab the fan on the top and bottom and try to wiggle it (similar to the way you grab a wheel to check for play in a wheel bearing) then if you feel play in the fan it could be the bearings in the pump. I tried this and found it hard to get a grip on the fan but from what I could conclude there wasnt any play in the fan.

Just wondering what you guys think.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Possible Bad Water Pump Bearings?

Loosen the belt and see if it quits.

However, since you have a HO, your fan is electric; messing with that won't tell you anything at all about your WP.

I see, think the belts could be causing the problem? the V-Belt for the water pump/crank/power steering looks heavily cracked up.

Likely. One way or another the belt should be replaced.

The Serp belt wasnt bad but I just went ahead and went down to my local parts store and picked up both belts for $44 CAD and now the sound magically disapeared
