pressure washing engine big mistake

I had a radiator hose bust, so I a bright idea lets pressure wash the engine. So now my 87 trans am's 305 tpi will run for about 15-20 minutes then cut off like someone is just turning the key off. Any ideas as to what would be causing this?

Well you have your first clue atleast, after the car warms up the problem arises. Although it should be warmed up in 5-10 minutes atleast

Did you let the car dry for a day or two? Try running the car without the air cleaner/filter on.

lol yes that was a problem, these old cars you just cant do that to unless everything properly sealed off. I would check the air cleaner as stated then go through and look for where water might be sitting. does it spit or sputter when it starts to die?

I dont have any signs. It doesnt spit and sputter it just shuts off almost like i turned the key off. I had read somewhere that there is a weather block near the battery with a fuse in it, could this be causing my problem?

unlikely. if that fuse was wet or blown, your car wouldn't run at all.

Not sure what a "weather block" is, but if I'm guessing correctly that is a power distribution block, afaik on my 92 it gives power to my cooling fan, which the relay controls the ground, power to the starter, and (maybe goes to alternator).

My question is.... does the car have ANY power at all (headlights, instrument cluster, door chime) once the engine dies, or is it a total system shutoff?

Remove the distributor cap and dry it and the distributor with a hair dryer.

Re: pressure washing engine big mistake

Its just the engine everything else stays on. Ill pull the cap and rotor off and check but if it was that wouldn't the car spit and sputter?
