Oil weight & Brand

What brand and what weight oil do you guys use also what motor are you running?

I had some tell me to run 10w-40 in the 305 I had.
I am going to be running a 350 just curious as to what others use.

Re: Oil weight & Brand

I've been using Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic 15/50 since 1993 with no issues. But a lot of engines have their own "personalities" and do run better on other types of oil synthetic or not.

Re: Oil weight & Brand

Try each brand on two oil changes. See if there are any noticeable differences. How often do you change your oil regardless of it being synthetic or not?

Re: Oil weight & Brand

Well since you are planing on using the same weights and both synthetics, you should be fine on trying both brands at two different oil changes.

I use what the owners manual says, regardless of mileage.
1986 Pontiac Trans Am 5w-30 (100k) Castrol, Valvoline, Penzoil
1972 Pontiac Ventura 5w-30 (20k on a rebuild) Castrol, Valvoline, Penzoil
2004 Pontiac GTO 5w-30 (127k) Castrol, Valvoline, Penzoil
2005 Chevy Cobalt SS SC 5w-30 Synthetic as required (74k) Mobil 1
2005 Chevy Trailblazer 5w-30 (60k) Castrol, Valvoline, Penzoil

Ah, the monthly "oil brand/type/weight flame war thread".

Barely got it in before the end of the month.
