Re: holley carb pros needed

It'll be about 600, FWIW.

Definitely NOT a performance carb.

Re: holley carb pros needed

theres no way it is only a 600cfm, not on a big block for a truck or bus, my 79 gmc came factory with an 800cfm quadrajet on a 350 chevy sb and thats a proven fact, the build sheet doesn't lie.

Re: holley carb pros needed

What does a Q-Jet on a 79 GMC have to do with a Holley on a 71 gas-burner dump truck?

Those old stock Holleys were in the neighborhood of 600 CFM. It wasn't "rated" that way, it just so happens that it's about that size. It just is what it is. Not that it matters; it's not a performance carb, so its "CFM rating" is sort of irrelevant. That's about like asking what the cargo capacity of a Porsche Boxster is, or the 0 - 60 time of a school bus.... that information wasn't necessary for describing the application at hand, so it wasn't generated.

Re: holley carb pros needed

i am just saying a dump truck will have a bigger carb on than just a 600cfm, not when a small block chevy can have a 800cfm something doesn't make sense, a 600cfm carb on a dumptruck or bus bould slag an putter down the road because the carb is not rated for it. its like putting a 2 barrel on a but and expecting it to work, not gonna happen. thats why i am saying it cant only be a 600cfm.

Better place a call to 1971 and tell them they got it wrong, then. While you're at it, put your Qjet on a flowbench and see what happens.

Re: holley carb pros needed

The reason they had a 600cfm carb was because the engine doesn't need anything more. You aren't redlining a dump truck or doing burnouts in a school bus. At my workplace there is a 60's-70's firetruck with a 427 big block that only has a 750cfm holley on it. You just don't need a high cfm carb on a vehicle that doesn't operate at high rpm.
