Engine Starts after turning over multiple times

I have a 305 Camaro runs good once its started but when im trying to start it it just keeps turning over and over and over... then finally puts to a start. I bought it last week and the guy gave me a rotor for the distributor and said a mechanic told him that was it... I changed it (the old one was very worn) still has trouble... Now I am about to put a new Distributor cap in it and fuel filter. Any other ideas?

Fuel Pump Relay. Driver side firewall, between brake booster and the fender, there is a bracket with two relays on the inner side of the bracket. The bracket has two 10mm bolts that hold it's "legs" to the firewall.

One relay is for the fuel pump, other for the electric fan. They should both be the same oval relay. The one for the fan has a large black wire with red stripe going to it, the fuel pump relay does not.

What happens is ... the relay turns on the pump based on a signal from the computer. If the relay is bad, there is a backup fuel pump circuit that runs from battery through the oil pressure sending unit to the fuel pump. It takes a few seconds for the oil pressure sending unit to recognize the oil pressure (it has to build up from the starter motor turning the engine over). Thus, it takes a few seconds for the fuel pump to get turned on by the oil pressure circuit.

Try a new relay.

Also, change that fuel filter anyway - it needs it.
