I have a 86 iroc z 305 tpi that won't start Wen I turn the key I can gear the fuel pump engage but when I turn the key nothing happens the starter won't crank click or anything n I took the starter out and had it tested but it passed and the guy from autozone told me to have the cylinoid checked I was wondering Wat else might be the problem? So please help me I need to fix it fast

 

this happened to me once and then i realized i had the kill switch on.

 

bad connection. does you key have a little black pellet chip in it? your vehicle anti theft system might have malfunctioned. if you go to the wiring harness loom by the brake master cylinder you can pull out a bigger purple and red wires. jump the wires together and see if it cranks the car. the key will need to be on and in park w/parking brake set for safety reasons. other then that your neutral safety switch could be acting up. does the car start in neutral? or in another gear? again be sure to hold your foot on the brake. that's where i'd go.

and also i have seen plenty of starters pass the bench test and not work on the car

 

I don't think mine has a kill switch tho Haha

 

I actualy have a 86 but I had to get a new steering column so I found one but its a 90-92 air bag steering wheel and the key does have a chip in it

 

but did the car get the whole vats system? doubtful. probably not your problem. did you test your battery and ensure the connections on them were good, clean, tight?

 

No my car never had vats its just the steering column I got is from vats camaro but I'm not sure Wat else to try

 

Did you make sure the connector on the column that has the rod running to it was correct? You could try swapping it (it's a switch) with your old one. I think it only has two screws/bolts holding it on, but it's been awhile since I changed my column, so I could be wrong.

Couldn't hurt to check it.

 

yea the metal bar coming from the ignition cylinder connecting to the switch i swapped to the older one next to the high beam switch
