New starter won't work, w/ new battery

Howdy. Driving a '92 mitsubishi 3000gt I recently bought. Bought a new battery about 2 months ago, and then I started noticing my starter was jamming so I ordered a new starter and put it in the other day. It didn't work right away (i thought because the gear just needed to wear in a little) so I whacked it and I was good to go. The next time I tried to start my car I just heard a click.

I tried hitting the cog part of the starter and starting it and it worked maybe 2/10 times, but mostly I just hear a click. Checked around the battery and it looks good as far as loose connections go. I did however notice that randomly after one of my attempts at starting it up my sound system was unresponsive...

Now when I hit the cog part of the starter nothing happens, so I tried hitting the solenoid part and I got the engine started maybe 2/10 tries again, and sound system is still not working.

Anyone else had this kind of problem before? Sucks lots lol

Sounds like a fusible link has blown for stereo.
Starter needs shimmed correctly.
Might have issue with neutral safety switch, ignition switch, or any other part of the ignition wiring.

Not a 3rd gen F-body car, so all we can do is toss 3rd gen F-body car suggestions your way. This board is solely for 3rd gen F-body cars, so this will get locked by a mod. Search net for a board more suited to your needs.

Sounds like you need to get rid of the MissTooBitchy and get a CAR.

Might I suggest, a 3rd gen GM F-body, so you can post about it on this BBS and your thread not get locked or deleted.

Yeah you need to shim it, plain and simple. look at the way its going, and shim it so it doesnt get locked up n the fly wheel. It takes a bit of practice... speaking from previous attempts myself.

Btw you will need half shims, which you'll have to cut the full ones in half urself, u prolly need to shim it away from the flywheel but really it just depends on how its getin stuck
