Engine decode confusion

this is not a question about a f-body
and i am sorry to bring this off forum question to ya'lls board but im confused and after some google searches earlier this forum kept coming up and i liked the knowledge of the members so i thought i might as well ask ya'll

ok i just bought a 97 s10 with a 350 swap, i have been trying to figure out some things about the engine b/c the seller didnt know much about it.

all right i have found a few stamps and they are
-5.7lg on back flange near bell housing
-casting #-10054727 also on back near bell housing
^both on drivers side
-K0803UKA stamped on pass. side under alternator by the waterpump

ok here is where i became confused

the casting # tells me this-10054727...350...86-up...2 or 4 bolt...one piece rear seal, some "Made in Canada"

but the front "ID code" tells me this
K0803UKA-
K=St. Catherines, Ontario(McKinnon Industries Canada)
0803=Aug. 3rd.
UKA=1981,350,con. cab, m/t, A.I.R.,P LF5,150hp,2 BBLS,BODY C-30 & 3500,159.5WB
Addition info-center bolt heads, and the spot where a mechanical fuel pump would go is there but its about 1 inch or more deep then solid.

i am confused because the casting # states 86 and up but the sufix code shows 1981, but a 1981 wouldnt have had center bolt heads and would have used a mechanical fuel pump right? any input to help me clear up this is greatly appreciated.

THANKS GUYS

Re: Engine decode confusion

Codes like UKA, some codes got reused in other years. Not reliable.
The fact that it has 5.7LG behind the left head proves that it's a later block, they didn't have that back in '81.

Re: Engine decode confusion

It's a 350 engine from the 80's. You already know most of what you need to know. Center bolt valve covers, dipstick is on the passenger side, etc. What it originally came in and what's currently inside it will probably not be the same.

The block is probably from a 1 ton truck in 1981 according to the suffix code. It doesn't take much to put center bolt heads on an earlier block so there's a good chance more has been changed.

Re: Engine decode confusion

Ignore that.
The fuel pump boss being cast closed further proves that it's a late block. In '81, NO 350 had any form of EFI, so they ALL had a mechanical fuel pump on the block. But by '87, even the carbureted 350s were using an in-tank electric fuel pump.

Re: Engine decode confusion

thanks for reply's guys i posted this on a couple of sites and was refered to this site
http://www.chevymania.com/partsid/

which shows the motor to be
UKA 81 350 Truck 145 LF-5 2-Brl C 30, A.I.R.
UKA 93 350 Truck 210 L-05 TBI

so from this it seems that i have a 1993 motor

Re: Engine decode confusion

I knew GM reused those codes.
So the '93 LO5 was 200 HP @ 4000 rpm, and 310 ft-lbs @ 2400 rpm.
