Looking for a flywheel that will fit

I've run into some problems with my build. I have a 350 motor built up and I'm having a little flywheel difficulty. The 350 is a one piece RMS. The hub to mount the flywheel is approximately 2.486" diameter. I need a 153 tooth flywheel so I can mount a t5. If anyone has any suggestions on where to get one, that would be great.

I recently purchased this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ZZZ-50-6527/ but the center hole is too small for the hub. Summit tech line suggested this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-700186/. I'm hoping someone has information on a cheaper solution, or perhaps someone has one laying around that we can verify will mount.

Your help is appreciated, this is the last step in my build.

Re: Looking for a flywheel that will fit

Won't your factory flywheel from the 305 work?

BTW - hello Raleigh, Cary here!

Re: Looking for a flywheel that will fit

The factory flywheel was off a 2 piece. Specifically off an 85 z28 engine code h I believe. Wouldn't matter anyway, I was dumb and sold it.

Hello Cary! I'm not in Raleigh anymore, Willow Spring now. I guess I should update that.

Re: Looking for a flywheel that will fit

The later cars had the 1 piece rear seal, have you checked like Autozone/Advance for prices on wheel from like a 1990 5 speed car? ALL the factory (and therefore the replacement) flexplates would be 153 tooth.

Re: Looking for a flywheel that will fit

Yup, stock 305 flywheel 86-up for these cars, is all you need. You'll find there are 2; one for the higher-perf cars at about 16 lbs, and one for the low-perf TBI and LG4 ones at about 22 lbs. You'll probably want the light one.

Sofa, can you link me the exact item you're talking about? I'm working away from the office today and won't be able to look until late this evening. I greatly appreciate it.

Summits listings are obviously wrong then because what you state would mean it is for 2 pce crank

Try Jegs# 601250 $70
( or # 601257 for a 24lb unit )

1986-92 SB-Chevy 153 Tooth Flywheel
1986-92 SB-Chevy Flywheel
Fits 305 (5.0L) and 350"(5.7L) 1-piece rear main seal block and crank
# Utilizes a 10.4" clutch
# External balance
# 153-tooth, 12-3/4" diameter ring gear
# 16 lb. total weight
# Replaces GM 14088646

Re: Looking for a flywheel that will fit

Sounds like there's some major confusion going on somewhere. And while Summit might not have all their listings "perfect", I'd be inclined to suspect that the confusion is elsewhere.

Does the crank look like this

or is it perfectly round and the flange is sort of enclosed in the seal?

it looks just like that. I know, I'm a retard. I suppose I thought there was an extra main cap at the rear that would house another seal, making the seal 2 pieces after assembled. /facepalm

Re: Looking for a flywheel that will fit

So you have a 2pc 350. You even sure it's a 350? Which side is the dipstick on?

I have a 2pc Hays Steel Flywheel and Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch I'd sell you cheap. I'm in Wilmington. I had them in my T5 RS but sold everything but the Clutch and Flywheel.

Re: Looking for a flywheel that will fit

No, that is internally balanced. It looks like it's a 442 casting; about the most common 305/350 crank casting out there. Besides reading the #, you can tell because the counterweights are round; they are not "flat cut", like this one is http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-...item3f0c925da3 (look at the 3rd and 5th pics to see how the CWs are lopped off). All stock small block Chevy motors except the 400, including the 1-pc rear main seal ones, are internally balanced (although the flywheels for the 1-pc motors are not themselves neutral balanced).

dipstick is on the driver side
You do not have a 1-pcs rear main seal motor. Which is why a flywheel for that, won't fit. You have a 2-pc rear main seal block from before about 1980.

For that, you need the flywheel for 83-85 Camaro/Firebird V8 305. Again, 2 types; the sucky LG4 got the heavy one, the higher-perf L69 got the light one.

A 14" (168-tooth) flywheel WILL NOT fit in the T-5 bell housing. Gotta be the 12.8" (153-tooth) size. The only stock setup like that, that I know of for sure, is 83-85 F-body V8.

Thanks guys for all your help. Just to make sure I don't screw up again, this is the item I intend to get: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ZZZ-50-6516/. Is this the correct one?

Re: Looking for a flywheel that will fit

It should at least fit.

Check what its weight is on Zoom's site.

The stuff MGM has is what you need; I'd suggest at least taking a look at it. I can't vouch for its condition or price or any of that obviously but it's worth a look.
