Choke Will Not Stay Closed

It is just starting to get cold as Winter comes around the corner. I own an Electric choke for my 1984 Firebird and it will not stay closed. It is always open even when it is cold outside. We just dropped in a new fuel pump because it is not idling right. Any suggestions?

What kind of carb? They are usually adjustable by loosening the screws and rotating the choke element. But if the choke element coil pigtail (some models of choke element) is not on the lever pin inside, it won't work.

Re: Choke Will Not Stay Closed

The factory riveted them in place in many cases. They didn't want people adjusting it. Also, some chokes have an "index key" so it can only fit in the housing one way- no adjustment by rotating it, even if it had screws you could loosen.

They sell aftermaket replacement choke elements that (sometimes) come with self-tapping screws to replace the factory rivets. In other cases they come with replacement rivets that you install using a common hand-held "pop rivet" gun.

It is not. I'm getting rid of it because its way to much gas for a daily driver so I'm rebuilding the factory V6
