okay heres the deal i am putting in a cam in my motor thought the cam was wiped out because id adjust the valves it would pull real strong for like 3 weeks and then back to being weak on the top end again so im replacing it with a bigger cam that i no is good (comp cam xe268 12-242-2)

my concern is that when i was lining up my timing marks i was turning the motor over with out the push rods in so the valves weren't moving

but i was getting a hissing noise coming from the back of the motor is this something els i can be hearing in the motor like air escaping from a piston coming on the down stroke ? or should i save for new heads or new valves because ones bent???

Its normal to have some hissing when turning the motor over. Its due to air escaping past the rings. If its a real fast sort of whooosh sound from one cylinder as you turn the engine over, than it may be a sign of something worse. A compression test may tell more, but a leak-down test will tell for sure if the engine is loosing significant compression in a cylinder.

its loud but i have to turn the motor slow or els its really hard to turn from the compression
