Re: Timing chain stretch

alot of chains are made over-seas now. a friend in the local parts store told me most of theyre double row chains are worn out in a month & he hates selling them to people. thats sad.

Are these really that bad? I nearly bought a set last cam swap but the local shop was out of stock, kind of glad I didn't now. Figured Cloyes gotta be ok, right?

Re: Timing chain stretch

The only low priced chain set I've found that's got some quality is the $35 Summit house brand true roller set. Nothign cheaper than that has worked well and for exactly the reason you describe- they stretch like salt water taffy in only a few thousand miles. When you get into the $50 range you start getting some really good chain sets for street use. Above that price point is often as much about special features as it is about higher quality.

Re: Timing chain stretch

Honestly what do you expect for $21. You can't fill up your gas tank or change your oil for $21. Why would you expect to buy an internal engine part as detailed as a timing chain for $21. I can't believe they can buy the raw materials, cast and stamp the parts, assemble, sell to Summit, ship to Summit, and Summit sell for a profit all for $21.

I can't even ship a piece of bubble gum to Korea for $21.
