Blocked water ports???
So I got these heads from a buddy for pretty cheap. He got them from a guy who was running these but upgraded. He saw the car running before they were taken off, but I can't figure out what the deal is. They have the water ports blocked off, but they have casting marks where they can be milled out... I dunno if they're LT1 heads because there's no hole drilled in the front of the heads. Was this guy running reverse flow or something?
Unfortunately I'm at work and this is the only picture I have. Anyone got an idea?

Re: Blocked water ports???
I don't see any sign of "blocked water ports" in that pic.
A pic showing whatever it is you're asking about, would be more informative.
Not sure why "LT1" should be introduced into the discussion; if that intake goes with them, they're about 99.99999999999% certainly NOT anything to do with "LT1".

Re: Blocked water ports???
I've done research and have found out that LT1 heads require modification to run on gen 1 blocks, but not all the modifcations listed are done to these heads. It doesn't add up

LT1 heads aren't perimeter-bolt.
Forget LT1. They're NOT.
Not sure where the whole "LT1" train of thought might have come from. Doesn't matter though; it's not applicable here.
Get a pic that shows whatever it is that you want to know about, and maybe we can identify it.

Re: Blocked water ports???
Those aren't "blocked off ports"; those are just places where they didn't put any more metal than they had to, because metal costs more than space.

Well, here's some info on the early LT1 with perimeter bolts valve covers that I used in my racing days.
Years: 1970–1972 (Wikipedia)
The LT-1 was the ultimate 350 cu in V8, becoming available in 1970. It used solid lifters, 11:1 compression, the '178' high-performance camshaft, and a 780 CFM Holley four-barrel carburetor on a special aluminum intake, with rams' horn exhaust manifolds in the Chevrolet Corvette, Delco transistor ignition and a low-restriction exhaust factory rated at 370 bhp in early Corvette sales literature, but actually only sold as 360 bhp version at 6000 rpm and 380 lb-ft at 4000[8] (the NHRA rated it at 425 hp for classification purposes). Redline was 6500 rpm but power fell off significantly past 6200 rpm. The LT-1 was available in the Corvette, Corvette ZR-1, and Camaro Z28. Power was down in 1971 to dual-rated 330 bhp, 255 nethp and 360 lb-ft of torque with 9:1 compression, and again in 1972 (the last year of the LT-1, now rated using net only, rather than gross, measurement) to 255 bhp and 280 lb-ft.

Re: Blocked water ports???
No, no water ports are EVER there... that part of the bead isn't even in contact with the block. It's hanging out in space above the lifter gallery.
Yes I'm well aware of the early 70s "LT-1" (the RPO was LT1, but for some reason they put "LT-1" on the hoods of Vettes that had it, just like the RPO was Z28, but Z28s had a badge that said "Z/28"). However there's no need for modifying anything to do with the cooling system of those parts to work with other SBCs, like there is with the 92-up RPO; so no need to drag that into the discussion, either.

Re: Blocked water ports???
99 percent of people ever are going to be talking about the 91-97 (Vettes too) LT1's. The LT-1 is old and forgottem for a reason - plus its no different than any other smallblock. The LT1 has unique water ports. I think its pretty obvious which one is germane to the discussion.
