"055" intake manifold

Can anyone tell me if an early '80's casting #055 intake manifold (Q-jet) is alum or cast iron. I believe this came on the '82-'84 150 HP motors.

Thanks

Use a magnet to find out. If it sticks to the intake, it is cast iron.

I assume you are not in a position to lift the intake as that is a dead giveaway.

In any case if you have the FULL casting # of the intake you should be able to Google it

Re: "055" intake manifold

ZimGTA, I may be dumb, but I'm not that stupid. If I had the manifold, I think I could tell the difference. But, I don't have it yet. That's the manifold I'm required to run with a NHRA stock eliminator car and I was wondering if it was iron or aluminum.

Full # is 14057055.

Re: "055" intake manifold

Many of those early 80s intakes were aluminum. The auto industry was into weight savings to help increase fuel economy back then and it marked the beginning of many company's diving into lighter weight materials in mass-produced vehicles.

If it's aluminum there will often be a series of lines cast into the runners on the outside where you can see them. At least I've noticed that seems to be a common differentiating characteristic between the aluminum and cast iron version of what are basically the same intakes.

But since you're class racing it's pretty unlikely they would spec an aluminum intake- stock or not.
