Randomly wont start....

I have a 89 RS with a 350 TBI w/ 700r4 trans. Randomly the car will not start. Put key in, turn, lights on dash come on but the starter never clicks or anything. I have replaced the alternator, batt, starter, ignition switch, fuel sensor and by passed the VATS. However, if you wait anywhere from 5-20 min. the car will just start right up. no changes made...just sit and wait. I have attempted to remove the batt cable for a few mins to see if this has any effect and it does not.

This is really annoying and i would appreciate any ideas anyone has.

Thanks Guys and Gals!

Have you checked the oil pressure safety switch?

For a different issue, Yes. The oil pressure gauge was not reporting properly. after replacement, the gauge now works as expected.

Re: Randomly wont start....

I am now thinking wiring. Going to run a manual wire for cranking to test.

I'm guessing the starter solenoid is sticking due to heat coming of the exhaust. Are you running headers? If so you can install a heat shield or insulator. I had the same problem on a Camaro and Corvette (with stock exhaust manifold).

Re: Randomly wont start....

no headers, stock manifold with flowmaster exhaust. Also, not sure this matters, but it happens first thing in the morning, right after driving, or anytime it wants really. does not seem to be only after getting hot. Not sure what that really means in the end...

Re: Randomly wont start....

I installed leather seats from a 2000 Camaro over the weekend. The drivers side is power so i ran a wire from the fuse box to the seat. The ground I connected to one of the seat bolts. The motor for the seat ran for about 15 min. I went for a test drive and it quit while i was driving. I put a volt meter on the wires right where it connects to the motor and it read 11 volts....but still does not work... i think i have some serious wire issues going on here.
