Re: Quick help needed

You can siphon it, if you can get the hose past the anti-siphon mech. It is usually easier to get a small fuel pump and run the fuel out that way. Some shops have pumps just for that reason, as well as for fools that either put diesel in gas engines or gas in diesel engines. I have a small inline pump I picked up from a parts store and a length of fuel line that works great for this purpose. You can pick up a pump like this for around 30-50 at most auto parts stores.

How long has the car been sitting? How much fuel is in the tank? If it has only been sitting for 2-3 years, and has less than half a tank, you could just add a few gallons of 91 and run it. With the cost of liquid gold these days, I am always hesitant to drain a tank unless I have no other choice.

Re: Quick help needed

a set of new plugs after you burn out whatever is in the tank is cheaper and easier than draining it. The problem I see is that if the gas is "REALLY" bad your not going to get it to run without a lot of backfiring going on. Just watch the backfires. Backfires don't do the carb and or cat/muffler and good. {intake/exhaust} I have seen those lil cheapy electric fuel pumps in places like Auto Zone for just over 10 bucks. Who cares if it ever works again as long as it gets your tank as empty as possible. Or you could just drop the tank and wiggle it around till empty. Its not all that hard to do.

Re: Quick help needed

I can tell you that I got mine running today, after sitting for nearly 4 years with a full tank of fuel. It is carbed, and just has a mechanical fuel pump. I plan to swap plugs anyway, and I am probably going to drop a new intake onto it for unrelated reasons, but it ran good once I got the carb primed, it idled perfectly, and I know that fuel can't be very good.

I do plan to add some octane booster, but I got excited to see if she would fire up.

Re: Quick help needed

Put an add up on Craigs list for FREE GAS. People with siphons and pumps and what not will be blowing up your email for weeks. Give them a bottle of octane boost if you feel really bad about it.

Re: Quick help needed

The float is in the tank, but it is possible the wire is shorted to ground somewhere and causing a full reading. I can't say for certain, mine is currently showing full. It is possible you didn't get the hose to go far enough past the anti-siphon device and it didn't get into the fuel enough.

I am going to just run mine out, and it has been sitting much longer than yours. After I get about 1/4 tank out, I will start mixing in some 91 until I can get it on the road and burn out the full tank.

Re: Quick help needed

ok i kept messing wit the hose to get it in further n finally did so i got about 6-10 gallons out i am guessing...gauge still reads at the same spot as before...i went ahead n ordered a new fuel pump n me n a buddy r gonna drop the tank tuesday night...i removed my back seat to see the wires running from the tank and they r loomed so i cldnt see anything...i guess i am gonna wait till i get the tank out in pump out to see if i can tell what is going on but even wen i turn the key to on position the pump doesnt prime i held the relay in my hand n i can feel it click but no sounds coming from pump so i figure for sure thats the issue i hope only issue...car has only 55K on it and my dad n i are the original owners...

Re: Quick help needed

It could reduce pressure if it is seriously plugged up.
