need help with a cam selection please!
I have a 87 305 tpi trans am 5speed and i want to buy a cam ive read on hear but cant find what i want i want a cam with a ruff idle and that adds some good power and i would like rocker arms,push rods and valve springs to go with it all the help i could get would be greatly appreciated

is it 87 or 88 that got roller cams?
Roller is better, but you need a pretty big roller cam to get that lopey idle. Or to be more specific, lumpy roller cams usually have massive lift numbers that are impractical in your case.
TPI doesnt work past around 4500 RPMs anyway, so a lumpy idle wont work that well in your car.
If you dont care about performance, get the smallest roller thumpr cam you can get. It will be a dog to drive, but it will sound nice at least.

That is what most people in your situation use. 1987 was the start of the roller camshafts.
Since you have TPI, I highly suggest spending a lot of time in the DIYPROM section of this forum and learning to do your own tuning.
IMO, there's not a lot of use to upgrade all that other stuff unless you're going to pull the heads and do some other supporting modifications.
If your timing chain has high miles, then I would replace that with a true-roller (not a double-roller) set when you swap the cam.
