Missing part, can someone plz help me out here.!

this is my first time posting to this forum, I always browse here when im looking for answers about my car. But now I have a question of my own, and I apologize in advance if this was already brought up before or if im posting in the wrong place. But I am missing a part on my engine, its something with the emissions system, I have no idea what to Google or search for because I dont even know what the part looks like or the name of it. The location is near the transmission fluid dipstick (which is on the passengers side), there's like a metal pipe going up the firewall the curves, it looks like something screws on to it. When i start the car on a cold morning I see like exhaust coming out of it. I will post a picture so that you all can see what I am talking about. I was told it was a diverter valve ( the missing piece) so i googled that and that part doesn't look familiar to me at all. so hopefully one of you can point me in the right direction. Im trying to get this fixed so I can take my car to get emissions done. and excuse my punctuation. and if it make a difference, my car has a v8, 305 TBI.

That almost looks like the air injection tube that goes down to the catalytic converter.

It's either that or the pipe that snakes behind the motor and provides air injection to the passenger side exhaust manifold, but it looks like that is visible in the right side of the photo.

Do you know what part I would need to look for that would hook on to it.? I'm even thinking about going on craigslist to check out some other ppls third gens they're selling to see if I can figure it out. But I don't really have the extra time for that.

I agree w Fire, that's the AIR tube to the cat.

It's hard to see exactly what condition the end is in; but the next thing that goes on the end of it there, is a check valve. Something similar to this.

The tube should have a fitting about an inch in diameter, that threads into a socket in the check valve. Then a rubber hose, about ¾", goes to one of the nipples on the diverter valve (big black blob thing next to the smog pump).

If it would be more convenient I can record a video of this with my phone and upload it to YouTube and post the link here so you guys can see this piece a little better..? And ok yes that part looks a lot more familiar to me. So you're saying that from that tube/pipe the check valve connects to it, then from the check valve, a rubber hose goes from that to the diverter valve.? And thats all that's missing.? And thanks for these quick responses man I can always depend on this forum. And another thing, if any of you have the same set up in your engine bay do you mind taking a pic so I can see the full assembly of this areas missing pieces. If its not too much trouble.

Thats what it looks like, but honestly it isnt a real important part for the function of your car. but you also dont want exhaust coming out like you said either. but i agree with ^^ there just small emssions pipes that come out of the air box and go to the cat.
