how much horsepower should i make?
ok guys. i have an 84 camaro and im dropping fully a rebuilt 350 "k" code motor. it has a comp 270h .480 lift cam. 305 h.o. heads which will make the compresion bigger. and they have a mild port polish job, bigger valves, and upgraded springs. and lastly, an edelbrock 4 barrel carb. how much power should i be making?

You'll make about 1/3 HP , , , , tops ....... ..... Your Engine , on the other hand , will probablly need a dyno to tell how many hp IT'S making

270H is .470 lift. The 280H is .480 lift. Which is it?
I imagine it will be between 250-300hp depending on what exhaust and intake you're running along with all the other mystery factors in your build that you didn't mention.

I had a motor similar to that in my old 85 Z28. Same cam, fully ported 305 heads, larger valves etc with all the other usual bolt on stuff. I had 4.10 gears and the car would run 13.7s@100mph
Re: how much horsepower should i make?
i would be totally happy with 13's. to go into more depth the car has a fully rebuilt 350 turbo tran with a shift kit. glasspack exhaust. soon to have headers. im guessing a 650 edelbrock carb. weiend intake (pretty tall one). upgraded stock oil pump. high volume water pump. volvo electric fan to help cool radiator (for those of you against this, i am a european car buff and volvo fans never go out and blow like a hurricane). and all the stuff i meantioned on a rebuilt "k" code motor.
im wanting to start there and see what that gets me.

I dont know what a "K" code engine is, and it probably doesn't matter. Similarly, water pumps and oil pumps dont matter either. If anything a high volume oil pump will lower your horsepower due to more parasitic drag on the engine.
But 250-300hp will get you 13's in a 3300lbs (about average weight without driver for these cars I think) car that's properly prepped.
With decent dual plane intake (RPM Performer or weiand equivalent), carb, and decent exhaust you should be right in the middle of that range I think. Edelbrock carbs kinda blow, but it may work fine for you.
But if you weight 200 lbs, and your car is 3300 lbs, and you're making the bottom of that range at 250hp, you're good for a theoretical 14.04@95mph. I think you'll be a bit above that. Just a matter of getting the gearing and a stall right for acceleration, setting up the suspension for launches, and gettin some hookin tires. If you're at 300hp, which isn't unreasonable if you tune it and get it running well, you're good for a theoretical 13.21@101.4mph
These figures are theoretical based on math, but I find they're pretty accurate. I'd say you should, if you get the engine AND the car set up properly, be in the 13.5-13.9 range. If you've got highway gears and a stock stall converter you'll be up into the 14's, but you'll know by your weight and mph what kind of potential it will have left in it. Those HP ET trap speed calculators are all over the internet.
You still need to figure out if it's the 270H or 280H. I know the 280H can hit 300+hp with slightly modified 416 heads. It'll sound absolutely wicked too.
