87 TPI car, turns over, no start
Tried searching, not finding something specifc
Here's the rundown:
Car has died just randomly 4x in the last week. The other 3x it has fired right back up, now, sadly, it's toast.
FP primes, have pressure at the rail, have 12v on the injectors. Not fuel. Shot some starting fluid down the intake, not even a sputter. Pulled a plug, No spark at the plug, no spark at the coil wire if I remember correctly either.
Changed out the ICM, no change. Battery is just about kaput now on top of it.
i'm looking at an ignition diagram from the GM service manual, but I'm not sure what I should be looking for to troubleshoot next.

id you replace the pickup coil when you did the icm? If the ecm is not receiving a pulse from the distributor the injectors will not fire. So you should check ot the coil primary and secondary resistance and the resistance of the pickup coil as well as power to the coil.

start with getting spark , I learned the hard way replace the pickup coil with the icm every time. check for power to the coil and check out the coil resistance first before you yank the distributor.

try cleaning the wire and the bracket for the coil. I had a similar situation that was caused by rust. all I did was clean the bracket for the coil and bolted back on. it worked pisser.

Under hood is very clean, and almost everything was disassembled and painted 2 years ago.
The coil was getting 12v in, and 12v at the module, and since it was a new MSD streetfire unit (2 months?), I dismissed it. Was getting ready to pull the dizz and decided to swap in the old coil just for the hell of it and it fired right up.
Thanks for the help all. If for some reason this condition resurfaces I'll re-open this. For now I'm going to go have a beer and try to not be pissed.
