smoke smoke smoke
New here and I've done alot of searching here and haven't found an exact problem like munged. Got an 89 rs 305 tbi, 50k miles. Smokes white smoke at start up, smokes slightly at idle, smokes Hella crazy when revved and let off, weather hard revs or easy gentle ones it smokes like hell on deceleration. Engine runs like a champ, nonoise and hardly even a vibration at all, honestly one the smoothest running motors I've every seen. Smoke doesn't smell sweet like coolant nor does it smell like oil. Smells like regular exhaust n the rich side tho. Car had set for awhile and hadn't been ran or maintained in bout a yeast so I'm going to seafoam her and change the oil. Does the charcoal canister ever get flooded?

Re: smoke smoke smoke
In my experience valve stem seals will smoke on startup mostly.
Have you noticed any coolant or oil loss?
Does both look fine in appearance (no cross containments)?
My bets are possible gasket issue (heads or intake).
Sounds like you got some looking to do.
I'd start by checking out everything around the motor. You should be able to see if anything is leaking out of the matching surfaces of the intake and heads. Check your fluids for milky or foam textures. After that checking spark plugs would be good. They are an easy indicator to see what is happening in the cylinders. If they are old and too discolored to see anything put in a clean set and look at them after it runs for awhile. Obviously don't cross wire spark plug wires keep track of them doing it one at a time. Remove the plugs and check them again after it's ran for awhile.

Re: smoke smoke smoke
after doing some inspecting for the obvious i found a couple of things: first the injector on the pass. side is leaking a considerable amount of fuel out of the top, the leak seems to get worse when revving up leading me to believe that it is the primary cause of the smoke. Never had one of these apart, easy fix i.e. o-ring or gasket? Second, the pcv port on the throttle body seems to be mostly plugged. primary concern as of now is the fuel leak

Never done a tbi, but normally ust be an o ring on ther injector tip and snap connectors I'm guessing. On the top. Normal chiltons or hyanes manual could tell you. I could check my parts cd later.

Re: smoke smoke smoke
well now that i got the vats issue resolved. I went and refreshed the tbi, and cleaned the plugged up pcv valve. After seeing how gummed up that was i can imagine what the engine looks like and how much crud is sitting in the exhaust. Gonna try to flush and burn it all out

Re: smoke smoke smoke
Comp test turned out good. All plugs have a brownish red tint on then (signs of burNT oil?) Took vc off, full of crusty old oil and the oil return hole was plugged. Also replacing valve seals on intake. Are the o rings needed?

Re: smoke smoke smoke
Hopefully the orings aren't needed cuz I didn't put then on.......... Anyway since the oil return holes were plugged in the front of the heads was wondering of anyone else has had this? Did it smoke? Cured after unplugging?
