Way to check engine codes w/o engine dash light
Hey everyone - 88 TPI GTA. In another post I have gotten some great help trying to diagnose a rough idle. Hoping their suggestions work. On another note...I was thinking of checking to see if any engine codes exist. I know where the port is and I have read about the paper clip thing. Problem is, my dash doest have the physical check engine light. Actually my entire stock dash is non existent (in modification phase).
Does anyone know if their is a way to check codes without relying on the blinking dash light? Local Auto stores don't have a obd I scanner. And I have a obd II scanner but the adapter port is obviously wrong. Are there inexpensive scanners I could buy that maybe have that "blinking light" built into them? Thanks gang.

Put a test light between pins A and D of the ALDL.
