Hey. I'll try to explain this best I can.
Hot or cold sometimes when I have car running usually in high idle before kick down , I get a low ticking sound from right side head (not lower engine) it gets louder for a bit and increases with throttle. When car idles 700rpms it runs like a champ no noises at any drive time, lights, traffic, idle and run in store nothing. I tried the qt trans fluid (draind oil first 1qt) seems lot quiter. Pulled valve cover to inspect. All seemed ok to me. Needs valve cover gaskets anyways. Time for lifters and rods??? New engine this winter but lg4 needs to be healthy till then.

 

sometimes a exhaust manifold leak will sound like that and will seal up once it is hot
