Speedo cable oil leak

I broke the speedo cable on the '83 Trans Am. I have tried replacing it by buying the cable & housing from Autozone and from NAPA. They both fit/worked OK, even though they are 2" longer. But they leak tranny oil at the tranny fitting. This is setting in the garage, not driving.

Has anyone else had this happen? After the A-zone leaked I got a NAPA part, thinking higher $, higher quality. No luck. The tranny fitting looks smooth, clean, no burrs. The tranny looks clean, no other leaks.

Any suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks.

My guess is that the leak is at the driven gear housing seals.
