Does anyone have this in .pdf format? I cannot open RAR files on my work computer. Locked up and all by IT.

 

what i did was download winrar to extract the file then saved it.

Got my copy - thanks!

Pain in the *** download of WINZIP, then had to back out all the changes they include in the install process, remove Bing from my Firefox start page, popup corrections, etc. Finally got it done, saved as a PDF, then removed WINZIP and corrected my browser. Only a 30 minute exercise but likely well worth it in the future - thanks!

Of course if my son was home from college, it only would have taken 2 minutes.

WINZIP is what I used but installing it will potentially create a number of changes you may/may not be happy with. Read my post above.

 

Use 7-zip for rar files, it's free

 

no excuse for not ordering the ACTUAL ,,, FSM from helm , or the like

Rusty , I gotta admit I got REAL angry when I read some of your posts this morning , and I posted up some pretty mean stuff tword you cause in reading your posts of late they all came off as being really insultive to those you were posting to . I do know that sometimes the posts on forums can come out sounding mean & condesending even when the actual intent is more like playful ribbing and you DO have my apology for seeing meanness in your posts if you really didn't mean for them to be nasty .

We ALL know a little something about cars , you seem to know a lot about building engines and I know wiring , for instance , and you DO have my apologies for jumping on you without talking to you first . I will freely admit when I'm wrong and by the fact that you apologized in your PM to me that means I WAS wrong about judging you to be a forum bully when in fact I can now see that your no such thing .

I cant get the shop manual because I don't use credit cards and such. I also cant get the down load. my system may be to outa date. I can send check or cash if anyone can get me a good shop type. not a chiltons.got 2 of them. BOBBY SUTH @731 693 5091

I no longer live near the library in Fremont, CA that had the marvelous section of auto repair manuals, so as at times we need the every day use Camaro running asap then this is handy to look up using my daughters internet. I prefer "written" book but at times the info. is need now and it is all I can do to afford the "parts". Sometimes I hate it that I can't pay someone their due for printing and coming up with the manual, but I am glad there are those folks that have helped support the authors. "Caught in a pickle at times". Hope your repairs work out.

Wow...old thread, but a good one.

I know free is better than buy (scribed has removed the upload); but if you're hell bent on an FSM go here:

....and put in your year, make and category. They have most year Camaro FSM's on CD-ROM and some Firebird FSM's as well, in PDF format.

Rock Lobster also sells some of the same CD-ROM's as well.

These are convenient, print out the pages you need and bring them out to the shop or extract the pages, highlight (as required) and attach to posts to help others with their problems.

The only negative comment I have (minor) is their electrical schematics aren't in color like the ones in the bound book. At least they're not for the '87 MY version I have.

 

Most of the Helm manual wiring diagrams aren't in color. Seems like the full Service Manuals are never in color. The diagrams in the 87 Electrical Diagnosis sub-manual are in color, but the diagrams in the full 87 manual aren't. 88-92 are all Black and White.

A couple of my Helm Manuals are getting rough enough I was thinking about chopping the binding off the pages and running them through the page feeder on the scanner. But for the prices of the Bitch-Co manuals on CD, there's not much reason to waste the time to scan a 4" thick book.

There's also absolutely no comparison between the free download in this thread, and a genuine GM/Helm manual. I haven't looked at the download recently but I want to say it's just a scan of a Haynes or oldschool Chilton type manual.

 

This still works for those whose finances are poverty level and way below, or at least it still worked for me. (And the forum here helps with the pointing in right directions for what the problem might be, then the manual helps with the way to the solution-at least for me).

I also use color pens/markers and camera to give detail to our specific vehicle and it's quirks (like a wire color change, etc). I know this is time consuming, but what isn't when it comes to vehicle repair?

 

For example this is the actual picture of the back of the vehicle gauges panel.

This is a standard picture and label of the back of the guages. I added details for my personal use to help then and if future need. (1990 Camaro)

 

I just bought and received a 1988 GM service manual ST-368-88 I hope this one covers the car?

It's inside the Distributor , and when it's replaced the new one must be installed with good quality Thermal Paste (like the serious computer builders use) instead of the stuff that comes with a new module , if you want the new one to last ...
